Chesapeake Bank Named One of the 2025 “Best Banks to Work For” for the 13th Consecutive Year

Chesapeake Bank has been named one of the Best Banks to Work For since 2013. American Banker has partnered with Best Companies Group to identify banks that excel at creating positive and supportive workplaces for employees.

Last year 90 banks earned a spot in the ranking of Best Banks to Work For, based on an anonymous employee survey and a thorough review of the benefits and perks offered. The full 2024 Best Banks to Work For list is featured at www.americanbanker.com and the 2025 will be released this fall.

“We are so proud to be included in this list of Best Banks to Work For,” said Jeff Szyperski, President and CEO of Chesapeake Bank. “This accomplishment is the result of our continued commitment to culture and making Chesapeake Bank a great place to work. The overall environment we have created makes for engaged and satisfied employees which, in turn, satisfies and rewards our customers and shareholders.”

On the 2024 list, Chesapeake Bank was nationally ranked No. 41, and the only bank recognized in the state of Virginia. The bank has been on the list every year since 2013. The survey and awards program are designed to identify and honor banks with the best cultures for helping employees thrive.

American Banker determines the ranking in collaboration with Best Companies Group. The ranking depends on two sources of data: a survey measuring overall workplace satisfaction that’s completed by employees at applicant banks as well as a review of each applicants’ various policies and benefits. Some of the initiative accomplished in 2024 was a new dress code policy, flexibility policy, and additional benefits such as Noom, Wellworks and Hello Heart.

According to the 2025 survey, strong scores were seen across the board for the “Relationship with Supervisor” section. This indicates a solid foundation on which to build upon for any initiatives we may encounter. Increasingly, one’s relationship with their supervisor is proving to be a key component in career satisfaction, and we are proud to say we rank high here.

Scores also indicate that the majority of employees feel safe and valued at work, with high scores (above 90) for questions on the topic of leaders caring about the employees, safety in the workplace, and overall satisfaction with us as an employer.

We understand the significance of conducting surveys and then taking action on the findings to continually improve our overall work environment. “Without the employee’s honest assessments and candid feedback, we would not have the basis to begin this proactive approach to improvements throughout our organization,” said Melissa Seabolt, AVP/Director of Training.
