ZELLE SAFETY TIPS – USE IT WISELY

Trust Your Gut

Zelle® is a swift way to settle up with your pals, family, or coworkers. But remember, it’s not the place for transactions with strangers.

Smell fishy?

If a deal smells fishy, it likely is. Neither we at Chesapeake Bank nor Zelle® are in the business of offering protection for authorized payments. So keep Zelle® for folks you know like the back of your hand.

Treat Zelle® Like Your Piggy Bank

Sent a Zelle® payment to the wrong chap? Give us a ring at once to dispute the blunder. Zelle® isn’t a bank – they just pass the message between your bank and the recipient’s bank to move the money.

Stay Alert

If you’ve signed up for peer-to-peer payment alerts, including Zelle, keep an eye out for alerts from 833-686-5282, not those old numbers.

ZELLE® FAQ

Zelle®? It’s like passing a note in class, but it’s money, and there’s no detention. You just need an email or a U.S. mobile number, and you can send money to your cousin, your dog walker, your hairdresser – anyone you trust. Doesn’t matter where they bank. It’s fast too, typically shows up within minutes. It’s the bee’s knees.

Once you join the Zelle® crew via the Chesapeake Bank app, we share your name, the title of your bank/credit union, and your email or U.S. mobile number with Zelle®. Now, don’t go worrying about your account details – those stay safe and sound with Chesapeake Bank. When someone shoots some money over to your registered email or U.S. mobile number, Zelle® finds your details in its “directory” and gives Chesapeake Bank the heads up about the incoming cash. Chesapeake Bank then slips the payment into your account, without spilling any sensitive account details.

Meet your Recovery Advocate, think of them as your personal identity guardian. They’re going to roll up their sleeves and work closely with you to assess this mess, and help lay out a clear path towards getting your identity back in your hands. They’ve got this nifty Limited Power of Attorney thing that lets them step in and handle all the pesky details of identity fraud. Once they’ve got everything shipshape again, they’ll keep a sharp eye on your credit for a full year – free of charge. And they’re always there to chat if you’ve got questions or new issues pop up. They’re in your corner, every step of the way.

To send some cash, just pick a pal from your contacts, or add a trusted recipient’s email or U.S. cell number. Decide how much you wanna send, jot down an optional note, check everything over, then hit “Send.” In most cases, your buddy will have the money quicker than you can say “Zelle®”.

If you’re more in the mood to ask for money, choose “Request”, pick the person you’re asking, put in the amount you want, add an optional note, look it over, then hit “Request”. If your friend isn’t on Zelle® yet, you gotta use their email to request money. But if they’re already using Zelle® with their U.S. cell number, you can send them a request using their number.

At Chesapeake Bank, safeguarding your hard-earned bucks and your precious info is as crucial to us as cracking a good crab. Trust us, when you use Zelle® within our mobile app or online banking, we’re protecting your details with the same gusto we use to protect your Chesapeake Bank account. No frills, no fuss, just good old-fashioned safe-keeping.

Look here, if you’ve got friends or kin you trust, no matter their bank, you can send ’em money direct from your Chesapeake Bank account. Faster than a catfish can swim downstream. But remember now, this ain’t like mailing a letter. That money’s in their account in a jiffy. So, make sure you’re sending it to folks you trust and check that email or phone number twice. Errors are about as welcome as a skunk at a lawn party.

Now, listen here, honey. If you’re thinking about using Zelle® to pay for something from a stranger or an online auction site, I’d advise against it. It’s like handing over cash to someone you’ve never met – risky business. Neither us folks at Chesapeake Bank, nor Zelle®, can offer any protection for authorized payments made with Zelle®. So if that antique lamp you bought turns out to be a dud, or doesn’t show up at all, you’re out of luck. Be smart, protect your hard-earned money.

You know Zelle®? It’s like your neighbor’s kid who always delivers your newspaper right to your doorstep. It’s quick, reliable, and perfect for sending money to folks you know and trust, like your niece, your dog-walker, or your personal trainer.

Since Zelle® moves money from your Chesapeake Bank account to another person’s account faster than a hot knife through butter, it should only be used with people you trust. Just like you wouldn’t hand your house keys to a stranger, right?

Now, remember, neither Chesapeake Bank nor Zelle® runs a lost-and-found desk for authorized payments made with Zelle®. So, if you pay for a rocking chair and it turns out to be a stool, or it just never shows up, we can’t cover you for that. Just like how you can’t uncrack a crab. So, always make sure you know and trust who’s on the other side of your transactions.

At Chesapeake Bank, we’re all about keeping it simple and honest. That’s why using Zelle® with your personal checking or savings account won’t cost you a dime. No hidden fees, no hoopla—just plain old banking the way it should be.

Some of your favorite small businesses might be able to get payments through Zelle®. Why don’t you check in with them and see if that’s their jam? If it is, you can pay them straight from your Chesapeake Bank mobile app. All you need is their email or U.S. mobile number. Simple, right?

Now, I’ve got to tell you, neither us here at Chesapeake Bank, nor the folks at Zelle® have a protection program for any authorized payments made with Zelle®. So, you need to be sure you’re only sending money to people (and small businesses) you trust. And double-check you’ve got the right email or U.S. mobile number when you’re sending money. You don’t want your hard-earned cash going to the wrong place!

Just a quick tidbit for ya: Zelle® is a bit picky, you see. Both the person sending the money and the lucky duck getting it need to have their bank or credit union accounts right here in the good ol’ U.S. of A.

Now, let’s say you’ve gone and sent money to someone who hasn’t signed up with Zelle® yet. In that case, you can just scoot on over to your activity page, pick out the payment in question, and hit “Cancel This Payment.” Can’t find that option? Well, honey, you just give our solution center a ring at 877-436-9032, and we’ll help you out.

But now, if that person is already a Zelle® user, that money’s gone straight to their bank account, and there’s no taking it back. That’s why you gotta be real careful about who you’re sending money to, and always double-check you’ve got the right email or U.S. mobile number.

And if you’ve sent money to the wrong person, don’t you hesitate to call our solution center at 877-436-9032. We’re here to help.
