FDIC-Insured – Backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government
Every entrepreneur faces moments of uncertainty. Whether it’s managing cash flow, accessing financing, improving payment processes, or planning for growth, having the right banking partner can make all the difference. It takes trusted advisors, a strong community, and partners who are invested in your success. That’s exactly the kind of relationship Chesapeake Bank has built with entrepreneur Rich Boehling over the last decade.
As the founder of Thnk:Collective, a retail boutique focused on sustainably sourced products from small-batch makers around the world, Rich believes businesses have a responsibility to create value for the communities they serve. It is a philosophy that closely aligns with our commitment to supporting local businesses and the communities we call home.
When Rich first connected with Chesapeake Bank in 2014, he was experiencing frustrations that many business owners know all too well. After years of working with larger financial institutions, he often felt like just another number. The personal attention and guidance he needed simply weren’t there. Then he met the Chesapeake team.
“Chesapeake Bank became real partners in managing my growth,” Rich says.
That partnership has continued through multiple ventures. Today, Rich is on his fourth company and has chosen Chesapeake Bank for three of them because of the trust and relationship built along the way.
For us, that’s what community banking is all about. It’s not just about accounts and transactions. It’s about understanding the people behind the business and helping them navigate both opportunities and challenges.
Banking services to help businesses grow and operate more efficiently
Entrepreneurs are experts in their industries, but every business owner encounters situations where financial guidance matters.
For some businesses, it’s managing cash flow. For others, it’s streamlining payment processing, accessing financing, protecting against fraud, or finding ways to operate more efficiently.
Our team works closely with business owners to connect them with solutions such as:
- Business checking and savings accounts
- Commercial lending and lines of credit
- Treasury and cash management services
- Merchant services and payment solutions
- ACH and wire services
- Fraud prevention tools
- Personalized guidance from a dedicated Business Relationship Officer
Why do businesses need a dedicated banking partner?
For Rich, the value of the relationship wasn’t just the financial solutions. It was knowing he had a banking partner invested in helping his business succeed.
“Chesapeake provided solutions to me that allowed me to make a very smooth transition from a big bank to a small community bank, to smooth out my cash flow during these crazy startup times of a business, and allowed my wife to sleep at night,” Rich said.
What made the difference, he explained, was the bank’s commitment and collaborative approach to problem solving.
“There was never a ‘no.’ There was always a ‘maybe,'” he says. “‘Maybe’ meaning, ‘Let’s try to work it out.'”
At Chesapeake Bank, we understand that every business is unique, and every entrepreneur’s path looks different. By taking the time to listen and learn, we can better help our clients find solutions that support their goals.
“Open, honest communications and working through the challenges that we face… I would say that’s how Chesapeake and I built our relationship,” Rich explains.
One of the biggest advantages of community banking is having a dedicated Business Relationship Officer who understands your business and serves as a single point of contact. Rather than navigating a call center or explaining your goals to a different person each time, you’ll work with someone who knows your business, your challenges, and your vision for growth.
Kevin Hill, Regional Manager of our Richmond region shared that those relationships are at the heart of who we are as a community bank. “We believe trust grows when people feel heard, valued, and supported. It’s why we make every effort to know our customers beyond their balance sheets and understand the goals that drive them”.
As Rich puts it, “I’m not the biggest fish in the pond, but I was made to feel that way. To me, that’s the difference.”
One of the recurring themes in Rich’s story is the importance of having an advisory team.
Business owners face countless decisions throughout their journey, especially in the early stages when resources can be limited and every decision feels critical. Rich believes having experienced partners can help entrepreneurs move forward with greater confidence.
At Chesapeake Bank, we strive to be one of those partners.
We understand that success isn’t always linear. Growth comes with challenges, pivots, and uncertainty. Our role is to walk alongside our clients, helping them navigate the road ahead while staying focused on what matters most: building strong businesses and stronger communities. When local businesses have access to the right financial partner, they are better positioned to grow, create jobs and make a lasting impact.
It’s a philosophy we’ve embraced for over 125 years, and it’s one we’ll continue to champion for years to come.
