At Chesapeake Bank, we believe our success is built on people, relationships, and a commitment to helping businesses thrive. That is why we are excited to welcome Casey Porter as the new President of Chesapeake Payment Systems (CPS), while also recognizing the incredible contributions of Kate Root, who plans to retire at the end of 2026 after years of exceptional leadership.
As a division of Chesapeake Bank since 1995, Chesapeake Payment Systems has helped businesses of all sizes accept payments efficiently, securely, and seamlessly. Based in the Chesapeake Tech Center in Norge, Virginia, CPS serves businesses throughout Virginia and across the country through strategic partner relationships.
With more than 25 years of experience in payments and financial technology, Casey Porter brings a wealth of knowledge and industry expertise to CPS. Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions with organizations including REPAY, Visa, TSYS, and BlueSquare, helping drive innovation, growth, and business enablement across the payments landscape.
While Casey’s experience is impressive, what excites us most is his shared commitment to relationships and client service. Those values have long defined both CPS and Chesapeake Bank, making him a natural fit for the next chapter of the organization. Additionally, Casey is already familiar with many members of the CPS team through years of industry partnerships, creating a solid foundation as he steps into his new role.
“Chesapeake Payment Systems has earned an outstanding reputation for client service, industry expertise, and strong partnerships,” Casey said. “I’m honored to join such an accomplished team and grateful for the opportunity to build on the success Kate and the organization have created.”
As we look ahead, we also want to acknowledge the tremendous impact Kate Root has had on CPS and Chesapeake Bank.
Under Kate’s leadership, CPS grew into a trusted payments partner for businesses across the country also known as our Merchant Services. More importantly, she helped build a culture centered on service, innovation, and meaningful relationships. Her dedication to clients, teammates, and partners has shaped the organization into what it is today.
Reflecting on her career, Kate shared that what makes CPS special is its people and the relationships built along the way. That perspective embodies the values that continue to drive the organization forward.
To ensure a seamless transition, Casey and Kate will work closely together throughout the remainder of 2026. Their collaboration reflects Chesapeake Bank’s commitment to continuity, relationship banking, and long-term success for our clients and partners.
As CPS enters this next chapter, we remain focused on helping businesses navigate an evolving payments landscape while delivering the responsive service and trusted expertise our clients have come to expect.
We are grateful for Kate’s years of leadership and excited to welcome Casey to the Chesapeake Bank family. Together, we look forward to building on a strong foundation and continuing to deliver innovative payment solutions that help businesses succeed.
